Robert Cooper, born 1777, known as "Black Bob", married his young bride Sarah May in 1822, and moved into the house that he built for her, Juniper Hall, "the finest house in Sydney".
"In the 1820’s, 5 kilometres outside of the town of Sydney, along the long and lonely track to the South Head of Port Jackson, was a windswept sandy knoll overlooking the finest harbour in the world. On this barren site will be built one of the finest houses in Sydney. A house that will see it’s share of happiness and sorrow, the birth of literally dozens of children, an emerging nation."
"The outrageous Frederick Augustus Cooper was born on the 8th. of August 1834. He was the 9th. child of 14 children born to Sarah (nee May) and Robert Cooper of Juniper Hall. The young man had already made a name for himself by being the first undergraduate at Sydney University to be expelled for "acts of ruffianism".
